Membership, Account Applications and Verification of Identity
This Privacy Collection Notification (“Notice”) is provided by P&N Bank, a division of Police & Nurses Limited (ABN 69 087 651 876 | Australian Credit Licence 240701) (in this Notice, “us”, “we” or “our”).
This Notice describes how we collect, use and disclose your personal information when you apply to become a member, open an account, or if we otherwise need to verify your identity.
What information we may collect
We may collect the following types of personal information about you:
- your full name, date of birth and contact details, which may include your mobile phone number, email and home address;
- copies of your identification documents (such as your driver's license, passport, or birth certificate) and extracts of key information from them;
- your tax file number (TFN) and country of tax residency. We are authorised to collect your tax information, but you are not required to provide it. However, if you do not then we may deduct and pay to the ATO withholding tax from any interest you may earn;
- if you are using our online application process, a ‘selfie’ that will be converted and used as a biometric template. As biometric information is sensitive information, we will ask for your consent before collecting this; and
- if you are using our online application process, we may collect information about your location or online activities (including whether you have accessed third party sites) to customise your experience.
We will generally collect this information directly from you.
Except for tax information if you do not provide us with the information we request, we may not be able to consider your membership application or provide you with the account you wish to open.
Why we need to collect your information
Using your information
We collect your information to:
- assess your application for membership with us and for the account you wish to open;
- meet our ‘know your customer’ obligations under the Anti-Money Laundering and Conter-Terrorism Act 2006 (Cth);
- meet our ‘verification of identity’ requirements including under State and Territory based law if you are securing a loan with a property mortgage;
- provide you with our products and services;
- manage our products and services, including the identification and mitigation of fraud and other improper uses such as financial abuse; and
- comply with the Taxation Administration Act 1953 and Income Tax Assessment Act 1936 and non-resident withholding tax requirements.
Direct marketing
We may use your information to advertise or promote products, services, business or investment opportunities we think may interest you, including by email or telephone. We may also provide your information to other organisations for specific marketing purposes. However, we will not do so where you tell us not to.
You can ask us not to contact you about products and services and not to disclose your information to others for that purpose by calling us on 13 25 77.
Who we may share your information with
Verifying your identity
We may share your information with credit reporting bodies (CRBs) to assist us with identification services (including Equifax). They will match that information against their own records.
We do not request a credit assessment from a CRB if you are applying for membership or an account. If you apply for credit, we will advise you of the credit assessment checks we will perform through our CRBs.
We may also share your information with other service providers that assist us with verifying your identity. This may include government departments for the purpose of conducting document verification service (DVS) checks and other service providers (including Dow Jones) who perform matching exercises against national and international databases, including for sanctions, fraud, and other criminal activities.
These service providers may record, use and disclose your information in accordance with their own privacy policies and legal obligations.
Biometric identification
If you use our online application services, we may send biometric information (based on a ‘selfie’ you provide) to our service providers (including Equifax) that provides automated identification verification of your identity. We will separately request your consent when collecting your biometric information.
If we cannot identify you through our automated identification verification process, or you choose not to use it, you will need to visit a branch to complete the identification verification process.
Joint applications
Where you apply for membership or an account jointly, we may share your information with the other applicants.
Your membership and account with us
We will share your name, member number and contact details with our share registry provider so we can manage your membership with us and so you can receive information related to your membership (including notices of annual general meetings).
We will share your information with other banks, payment providers, and our service providers to operate your account with us, including to process your transactions, facilitate your receipt of payments and issue you with a debit card or other means to access your account.
Sharing your information overseas
Some of our service providers operate outside of Australia, so we may send your information overseas. Our Privacy Policy contains more information about the countries our service providers operate in.
Our Privacy policy
Our Privacy Policy is available on our website or on request from any branch. Our Privacy Policy should be read in conjunction with this Notice as it contains more detail about how we collect, use and disclose your information and other information practices including:
- your right to access your information and request corrections to it;
- how you can make a complaint if you believe our handling of your information has breached your privacy rights; and
- how we will handle any complaints.
